Week 7 - BALT 4363 - Lovable Experimentation

After using Lovable, I was surprised to find how closely it resembled Replit in terms of functionality and ease of use. All I needed to do was type in my prompt with all the necessary details, and Lovable was able to create a fully functioning app based on these requirements. Despite the initial similarities between these two AI platforms, I feel that Lovable is better suited for use by the average person. When I typed information into the Replit prompt box, I had to keep repeating myself or rephrasing my initial request in slightly different ways to get it to understand and subsequently implement it into my webpage design. For example, I created an Outfit Roulette simulator and asked Replit to integrate both female and male models, depending on whether the user selected the “masculine” or “feminine” clothing option. However, Replit struggled to interpret this request, as all the picture outputs included only female models. After multiple rephrasing attempts, Replit was still not able to complete this relatively simple task.

On the other hand, Lovable arguably has a greater level of understanding and, consequently, a greater ability to integrate details into the app or web design. For background, I used Lovable to build a scholarship tracker, as pictured below, where the user inputs all the necessary scholarship information—including dollar amount, issuer, application requirements, status, deadline, and other notes. Individuals can then prioritize which upcoming scholarship applications need to be completed first, as well as monitor and streamline the completion of scholarship requirements. I had initially allowed Lovable to choose the background, as long as it related to the purpose of the tracker. Unfortunately, the background Lovable chose ended up obscuring the scholarship information on the page. I then asked if it could produce a more opaque background that wouldn’t detract from the information on the page, which it successfully did. In this respect, I found that Lovable has a greater level of understanding than Replit, making it ideal for average users looking to build a simple app or webpage.
